IDEAL EDC CARRY
The balance of thin and comfortable
In the past I have made extremely thin and light knives and I have loved them because they were so easy to carry. (see the SOG Ultra XR). After many years of field testing, there were some things that I wanted to improve. For example I loved the thinness for the carry stand point but they were so thin that they would hurt my hand when I would apply them to any thing accept very light use tasks. Another example was the durability of the construction. While great for weight reduction but structurally they were not as robust as I wanted. I have found that in my every days tasks there are many instances where I need to use a pocket knife for more than just a very light task.
I optimized the MERINO Line to be a ghost in your pocket by making it a half to a 3rd the thickness of an ordinary pocket knife. I reduced its profile height to be thin enough to fit in the seam of your pocket and still have room for your hand or phone to slide by and yet I made it comfortable in the hand by calculating and designing its edges to be wide enough, smooth enough and round enough to distribute the load evenly along its profile so that you would not feel any “hot spots” in your hand.
For the DM and MM MERINO I biased the balance between utility comfort and carry comfort to be towards the carry comfort. In the future I may add to the line models that are biased more towards the utility that are still very comfortable to carry.
