CREATING A BETTER POCKET CLIP
A pocket clip design for modern pocket carry
From my many years in the Knife industry I can tell you that pocket clips get broken, tear holes in pants and seats, get caught in seat belts and are generally a disliked necessity. With MERINO, I decided it was high time to spend some brain power and see if they could be improved upon.
The first thing I tackled was their propensity for making holes in pockets and seats. The main feature that causes this damaging behavior is the tip of the pocket clip. The reason for this is because the clip is often a bit of stamped sheet metal, and the tip is turned up so that they pocket clip will easily slide over the hem of a pocket. My solution was to invest a bit of extra cost into making a non sheet metal clip that has a flat top surface that will smoothly interact with a seat, pocket or hand. I then reshaped the underside tip of the pocket clip so that it will be easy to slide over the hem of your pants pocket, yet it will grab the hem during extraction to help prevent the knife from accidently falling out of your pocket (like when you bend over or sit down). Since I also wanted to make extracting the knife easy, I made sure there was enough room for the tip of your finger at the tip of the pocket clip so you can simply lift the clip for rapid and resistance free removal from the pocket.
