We're a small operation. When you reach out, a person reads it and writes back — usually within one business day. The answers below cover most things. If they don't, get in touch.
Frequently asked
Orders
Reach out through our contact form as soon as possible. If your order hasn't shipped yet, we can change or cancel it without issue. Most orders ship within 1–2 business days, so the sooner you contact us the better.
Pre-orders can be cancelled any time before they ship for a full refund, no questions asked.
They ship separately. Your in-stock item goes out within 1–2 business days as normal. Your pre-ordered item ships on its release date. Domestic orders ship free in both cases. You'll get separate tracking numbers for each.
Not formally — but reach out through our contact form before you order and we'll do what we can. Pepperwool knives ship in clean, minimal packaging that doesn't need to be hidden. If you want a note included, mention it and we'll make it happen.
Shipping
Nothing, for US orders. Every domestic order ships free via USPS Ground Advantage. No minimum, no promotion, no exceptions. International orders ship at a flat-rate fee shown at checkout — no weight-based surprises.
Orders ship in 1–2 business days. USPS Ground Advantage delivers in 3–5 business days for most domestic destinations. Plan on 4–7 business days total from order to pocket — most arrive faster.
You'll receive a tracking number as soon as your order ships so you can follow it the whole way.
Yes — to many countries, directly through the site, at a flat-rate shipping fee shown at checkout. If your country is supported, you can order without contacting us first.
Don't see your country at checkout? Reach out through our contact form and we'll let you know if we can ship to you, the carrier, and the cost — before you pay anything.
Check with neighbors and your building's mail area first — USPS sometimes marks packages as delivered a few hours before they actually arrive. If it's been 24 hours and there's still nothing, reach out through our contact form within 7 days of the delivery date and we'll open a trace with USPS and ship a replacement.
Returns
30 days from delivery, no questions asked. Carry it. Use it. If it's not the right fit, send it back and we'll refund you in full. The knife should earn its place in your pocket — not just survive the unboxing.
To start a return, reach out through our contact form with your order number. We'll send a prepaid return label and process your refund within 3–5 business days of receiving the knife back.
Take a photo of the packaging and the knife as they arrived and send it through our contact form. We'll sort it out — replacement or refund, your call. We stand behind every order we send.
Warranty
Every Pepperwool knife is covered against defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the knife. If something fails because of how it was made, we'll repair or replace it.
The warranty doesn't cover damage from misuse, sharpening errors, or the kind of wear that happens when you use a knife hard — that's what it's for. If you're not sure whether your issue is covered, reach out and we'll give you a straight answer.
Submit a message through our contact form with your order number and a photo of the issue. We'll review it and get back to you within one business day with next steps. If it's covered, we'll send a prepaid return label and ship the replacement at no cost to you.
We're a small operation. There are no warranty forms, no ticket queues, no holds. A person will read your message and respond.
The Knives
Both share the same philosophy, steel, mechanism, and carry approach. The difference is blade length and grip: the MM has a 2.125" blade and a handle that fits a confident partial grip — it's for the person who wants to forget they're carrying anything at all. The DM has a 2.9" blade and a full-hand handle — it's for the person who wants real capability without trading away carry.
If you're choosing between them: pick the MM if you want it to disappear. Pick the DM if you want it to arrive in your hand like it was built to be there — because you actually need it to do work.
S35VN is a refined version of S30V — it added niobium carbides to improve toughness and sharpenability without sacrificing edge retention. It holds a working edge longer than most steels you'll encounter in daily use, doesn't chip easily, and sharpens on equipment most people already own. It's the steel we'd carry.
20CV gets a harder edge but becomes more brittle and is harder to maintain at home. For a knife you're carrying every day and sharpening on a basic strop, S35VN is the better call. The spec is a decision, not a cost cut.
The kick deploy opens and closes the blade with one hand — without requiring a full grip to operate. You can deploy the blade while your other hand is occupied, and close it the same way. It's smooth, repeatable, and doesn't rely on the kind of flick motion that reads as aggressive in public settings.
The mechanism was designed and refined in-house over three years. It's why the knife opens the way it does — not because it was the easiest solution, but because it was the right one.
Yes. The DM is slightly longer and heavier (2.4 oz vs 1.6 oz) but maintains the same thin profile — 0.38" vs 0.35". Both use a deep carry clip that drops below the pocket line. The DM will be present in a way the MM isn't, but it's designed to carry in a standard front pocket without announcing itself.
Carry & Legal
For a folding knife under 3 inches, yes — in the vast majority of US jurisdictions. The MM's 2.125" blade and the DM's 2.9" blade both clear the legal threshold in virtually every state and most municipalities. A standard folding knife is not a weapon in the eyes of the law in most places.
The exceptions worth knowing: New York City has restrictions on carrying a knife visibly (clip showing above the pocket line). A handful of states and localities have stricter rules. If you're uncertain about your jurisdiction, check your local statutes — we can't give legal advice, but the rules for sub-3" folders are generally very permissive.
Legally, almost certainly. Practically, it depends on your employer. Most workplaces don't have written knife policies — and even those that do usually address weapons, not a 2.1" folding knife. The MM in particular was designed for environments where you don't want anyone noticing you're carrying.
The deep carry clip keeps it below the pocket line. The color palette (dark blue, white, safety yellow) reads as a tool, not a weapon. The kick deploy opens without a theatrical motion. None of it looks like something that belongs in a complaint.
In nearly all cases, yes. Most knife restrictions trigger at 3 inches — the DM's 2.9" blade sits just below that threshold by design. Not a millimeter wasted. Not a millimeter over. That tenth of an inch is a legal position built into the number, not a coincidence.
There are a small number of localities with stricter rules (some restrict any folding knife, some go lower than 3"). If you're traveling somewhere with an unusual restriction, check locally. But for standard everyday carry across the US, the DM clears the same threshold as any sub-3" folder.
Knife Care
S35VN sharpens easily compared to harder stainless steels. For regular maintenance, a leather strop with compound will keep the edge performing between sharpenings. For a full re-edge, a fine ceramic rod or a diamond plate at 20–22 degrees per side will do it.
The blade comes factory-sharpened at around 20 degrees. If you're sending it to a professional sharpener, ask them to maintain that geometry. Pull-through sharpeners will work in a pinch but remove more steel than necessary — avoid them if you can.
The pivot and mechanism stay smooth with occasional lubrication. A drop of quality knife oil (Tuf-Glide, Nano-Oil, or any food-safe knife oil) applied at the pivot every few months is all it takes. Open and close the blade a few times to work it in. Wipe off the excess.
For cleaning: warm water and mild dish soap, rinse thoroughly, dry completely before storing. The G10 handles don't absorb moisture but the pivot can collect grit over time — a toothpick and a can of compressed air handles it.
S35VN is a stainless steel with excellent corrosion resistance. Under normal daily carry conditions, it won't rust. Salt water and prolonged moisture exposure are the things to watch — if you've been at the beach or in the rain, rinse and dry the blade before putting it away.
The titanium nitride coating adds another layer of protection. Surface marks from carry are normal and don't compromise the coating. A light wipe with knife oil once a month is all the maintenance the blade needs.
